I want Sandy is shutting down

Very sad but it's really happening.

I want Sandy

Hello,

Values of n, the company behind I Want Sandy, is closing its doors.

Sandy will going offline at close of business (5pm Pacific Time) on Friday, December 19th, 2008.

Until then, she'll be working as usual to allow you time to make the transition, find alternative services, and download any data you wish to take with you.

» Here's the full announcement.

To make your stuff portable and importable, Sandy can gather all of your appointments, to-dos, contacts, bookmarks, lists, and notes into six standards-based files: iCalendar for appointments and to-dos, vCard for contacts, and plain text for notes, lists, and bookmarks.

You can download and import it all into an alternate calendar, to-do list, contact management or note-taking application. You'll also get a person-readable text file containing everything you've had Sandy remember for you. (Open it in your favorite text editor (Notepad, TextEdit, Word, et al) or your Web browser.)

Please be sure to export anything you'd like to keep before Friday, December 19th. After that, Sandy and the iwantsandy.com web site will be offline and all user data will be permanently deleted.

» Export your stuff.

Thank you to everyone who has made Values of n and Sandy possible. It has been an honor to work with you all.

Rael

Adventures of the Turducken

We finally defrosted, baked, and ate the turducken. All and all, it was good, but not spectacular like I imagined. It definitely was moist and full of flavors.

Multi-bird Roast

This puts my Turducken to shame.

Posted by email from Daniel Hoang (posterous)

Variations of the Turducken

The largest recorded nested bird roast is 17 birds, attributed to aroyal feast in France in the early 19th century (originally called a RĂ´ti Sans Pareil, or "Roast without equal") - a bustard stuffed with a turkey, a goose, a pheasant, a chicken, a duck, a guinea fowl, a teal, a woodcock, a partridge, a plover, a lapwing, a quail, a thrush, a lark, an Ortolan Bunting and a Garden Warbler. The final bird is small enough that it can be stuffed with a singleolive; it also suggests that, unlike modern multi-bird roasts, therewas no stuffing or other packing placed in between the birds. This dishprobably could not be legally recreated in the modern era as many ofthe listed birds are now protected species. [1] [2].

IBM X-31, I will not let you go

My trusty IBM X-31 has been with me for over four years. I bought it then for $1500 and it has lasted since. Since then, I have replaced the AC adapter (the wire wore off and split open). The battery lasts no more than 15 minutes and should be replaced if I ever want to take this away from the wall plug.

While the new MacBooks look incredibly appealing, I'm still hanging on, hoping that she serves me well for at least one more year. Other than some overheating, especially when watching videos, it still functions.
